A Wildlife Photographer’s Journey to Liver Health

Phil, has had an amazing liver health transformation. He is a passionate wildlife photographer in his mid-60s, never imagined that a routine health check would uncover a serious issue with his liver. Struggling with his weight for years, he had found it increasingly difficult to lose excess pounds, despite trying various diets and exercise regimes. At 19st 7lbs, his energy levels were low, and his liver enzymes were alarmingly high—his GGT levels had soared above 100, well beyond the healthy range of less than 40. A FibroScan at LiverScan revealed further concerns, with a liver stiffness measurement of 15kPa, indicating potential liver damage.

How Weight Loss Transformed His Life

Determined to take control of his health, Phil embarked on a transformative journey. With medical support, he started taking Wegovy, a weight loss medication that has helped many individuals struggling with obesity. However, he knew that medication alone wasn’t enough—lasting change required a complete overhaul of his lifestyle. Phil revolutionised his diet, cutting out unhealthy foods and instead filling his meals with nutrient-rich vegetables and whole foods. He also committed to increasing his physical activity, incorporating daily walks into his routine. Over five months, the results were amazing. Phil lost an incredible 3 stone, bringing his weight down significantly. His liver responded positively to these changes. Initially, his liver stiffness score was 15kPa and it dropped to 8.5kPa. This reduction is almost within the normal healthy range. His liver fat levels also showed a marked improvement. His liver enzymes have also seen a significant decrease.

Beyond the health benefits, the most rewarding part of Phil’s journey has been the impact on his passion for wildlife photography. Previously, his weight and breathlessness made it difficult for him to reach remote locations, limiting his ability to capture the stunning imageshe loves. Now, with renewed energy and mobility, he can immerse himself in nature, venturing to places he once struggled to access. His photography has flourished as a result, and his incredible work can be seen here: Phil Crowder Photography.

Goals

Phil’s story is a powerful reminder that having a passion can be a key motivator in achieving health goals. By taking charge of his liver health and making sustainable changes, he has not only improved his well-being but also rediscovered the joy of doing what he loves most. At LiverScan, we are delighted to see such a positive liver health transformation. We hope Phil’s journey inspires others to take the first step towards a healthier future.
