An Ex-Nurse’s Wake-Up Call
As a former nurse and lifelong teetotaller, they never thought they would have any issues with their liver. Like most, they had always associated liver disease with alcohol consumption. When they underwent a routine FibroScan on the NHS, they expected to be given the all-clear. Instead, they received the shock of their life. Their fibrosis score indicated they were on the path to serious liver disease, which was a big wake-up call.
Determined to turn things around, they saw this as the motivation they needed to change. She knew that weight loss and lifestyle improvements could make a difference. Therefore, they committed themselves to change. They increased their daily walking and made healthier food choices. This included incorporating high-grade olive oil and black coffee into their diet—both known for their potential liver health benefits.
Over the course of a year, their transformation has been nothing short of inspiring. They have lost 10kg since their first scan. Dropping multiple dress sizes—from a size 22 to now finding a size 16 too big! But more importantly, their liver health has dramatically improved. They have had two scans on the NHS and two private FibroScans with LiverScan, and each one has shown continual progress. Today, they are officially in the healthy range, with a liver stiffness score of 5kPa, and their liver fat has also significantly reduced.
Now, she feels like a new woman, full of energy and able to enjoy life to the fullest. One of the biggest joys of their improved health is being able to run around and play with their beloved rescue cat, something they couldn’t have done before.
Their story is a testament to the power of determination and the incredible changes that are possible with the right motivation. We are thrilled to have been part of their journey and delighted to see the smile on her face after today’s appointment. We wish them all the best as they continue to prioritise their health and well-being!
