Fit (and healthy) for Fifty
In a journey towards better health, our client, who turns 50 this year, has successfully improved her liver fat (steatosis) score, despite no change in her weight. Following a FibroScan in September 2023, she made small, consistent lifestyle adjustments that led to this positive outcome.
Her mission to be “fit and healthy for 50” became her guiding principle. After the FibroScan revealed high levels of liver fat, she committed to a healthier lifestyle, focusing on diet and physical activity. She had gone from the highest level of fat to the lowest. There was also a decrease in her liver scarring (fibrosis) score, despite being within the normal range originally. The pivotal changes included cutting out cheese and wine from her diet and increasing her daily walking routine with her dogs to five miles per day. These adjustments proved effective, leading to a noticeable improvement in her liver health.
“My goal was to be fit for 50, and I’m thrilled to see such positive results from the changes I’ve made”
Despite maintaining the same weight on the scales, her liver fat score showed significant improvement, demonstrating that health isn’t solely about weight loss but also about making sustainable, healthy choices. Her success story underscores the importance of dietary modifications and regular physical activity in managing liver health.

She remains committed to her health journey and has another liver health check scheduled in six months, just before her big birthday.
“We’re delighted to see clients achieve such fantastic results. It’s rewarding to know that our guidance can make a real difference in people’s health and happiness”
Her story serves as an inspiration for others who may be one of the 25% of the Scottish population living with undiagnosed fatty liver disease. By making informed and consistent lifestyle changes, it’s possible to see significant improvements in health, regardless of the number on the scale.
